Chicago Artists Month Luncheon

Art and Money: The Business of Art in Chicago

October 6, 2010 – 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM

A few months ago, a painting by Pablo Picasso sold for over $106 milllion, becoming the most expensive single work of art ever sold at auction.  This sale created a buzz in the art world and reignited conversations about the economic underpinnings of the art market.

What makes some works of art worth more than others?  Who determines the value of a work of art?  How does a contemporary artist make a living?  How do the commercial gallery system and auction market work?

The Civic & Arts Foundation is hosting a special luncheon and panel discussion to explore these and other current issues in the art world.  This luncheon is CAF’s seventh annual event in honor of Chicago Artists Month.  Club members are encouraged to participate in this event and to treat a Chicago artist to lunch.  Join us for this intriguing conversation and opportunity to show our support of Chicago’s art community.

Cost: $25 per ticket, $50 to sponsor an artist.  Price includes lunch.
